920.1 | Boy did he get OLD!!! | JAWS::COTE | Take a seat and cool it... | Tue Oct 13 1987 09:57 | 7 |
| I heard a cut on 'BCN yesterday (I forget the name, sorry, but that
should tell you something.) It wasn't bad, but had I not been aware
that it was Harrison, I wouldn't have paid *any* attention to it.
I'm looking forward to hearing "When We Was Fab".

That'll be a really interesting cut! You probably read the RS article
- and they said it sounded more like "I Am The Walrus" than anything
else. It's amazing that George would write a song like that - he
used to try so hard to rid himself of the Beatle past. It's nice
to see him mellowing out about it. I'm hoping the album is as good
as RS says it is.
Let me know what you think when (and if) you get it.

| I heard a cut on WBCN while in a store Friday and was EXTREMELY disappointed.
But then, they played "What Is Life" afterwards and it sounded horrible too.
Neither sounded like George singing. I didn't think I was so easily influenced
by audio quality (the radio was the pits). So I'm reserving my opinion until
tonight or tomorrow, when I buy the new album on CD.
With Elton John on it, it can't be all bad!

920.4 | Delays!!! | CIMNET::GRIFFITH | | Tue Oct 13 1987 15:26 | 12 |
|
Well, folks, we're unfortunately going to have to wait a bit longer.
The record store that told me last week that George's new album
would be out this Tuesday has just told me that it won't be available
for another one to two weeks. Strawberries also confirmed a two
week delay. I even saw an article that said it was out last week!
But it looks like only the single is out. I get the feeling that
there's been an unexpected delay - otherwise the Rolling Stone article
would've been held off a bit (they usually time the articles with
the release date almost exactly).
Looks like we'll be talking about the Abbey Road and Let It Be CD's
before the new George CD. Ah well.

920.5 | Donovan? | COMET::LEVETT | They're all a bunch of Baggums! | Wed Oct 14 1987 11:43 | 6 |
| I understand that George does a duet with Donovan on the lp/cd.
Can anyone confirm? I always thought that Jeff Lynn tried to get
that Beatles feel into ELO records, and liked what he did for Dave
Edmunds, so it should be very interesting indeed.

I heard the single on the radio the other day and thought it sounded
like ELO....
I also saw George and Ringo on HBO at the Prince's Trust concert,
and there strumming along on"Here ComesThe Sun", grinning like the
cat that ate the canary is our good buddy Jeff Lynne...
I always *knew* he wanted to be in the Beatles.

| RE .0 I KNOW this is off the subject but where did you find
the import of All Things Must Pass ??
I read some where that George and Jeff have been working on
this album for over a year.

920.8 | Hopefully this "Thing" will Pass | BARNUM::WOOD | | Fri Oct 16 1987 14:13 | 12 |
| I was in Rock-N-Mania Records in Framingham looking for "All Things
Must Pass" and was told that it is no longer available because our
@#$%^&* American record companies have gotten the government to
stop the sale of import CD's.
Ditto with .7, if anybody finds a copy somewhere please let me know
because I'll buy it on the spot!!

Re: .8
Sounds typical.
The old "since-we-won't-sell-it-to-you-we-won't-let-you-find-it-
anywhere-else-either" mentality rises again.
Here's an idea...Each company should open a special order service.
When you want an out-of-print album, you mail them $8 and they send
you back a cassette that someome in the back copies just for you......

920.10 | Don't give up yet. | MRVAX::JMEYER | The world won't listen | Mon Oct 19 1987 18:29 | 7 |
| I believe the law is the same as with the one they passed on albums
last year. Simply it is that US stores can not sell an Import version
of the same "identical" album or CD that is pressed in the US. If they
no longer sell the Import it should be available as a US release soon.
For any info on CD's

| I just picked up the ALL THINGS MUST PASS import today at BCD.
I'm afraid it was the last copy, though (at least the last one
they had in the display case). I've only listened to the first
disc (LP sides 1-3) and it isn't overwhelmingly clean, but it's
more than acceptable. BCD was charging $40.99 for it (which is
about twice the price of a single-disc import, so it isn't as
out of line as it sounds).

920.12 | ATMP | CIMNET::GRIFFITH | | Thu Oct 22 1987 11:15 | 10 |
|
I got my copy from a store in Denver - for $36.
And I think it still can be found, but I think it's true that if
it is no longer available as an import, than it must be coming out
shortly (by Xmas??).
Compared to the album, the CD is great! George and Phil SPector
mixed the album with a lot of reverb, so it's not going to sound
as clean as it could (without a remix). But I think the reverb is
part of the style - and it would probably sound a bit stark without
it.

ANd by the way... the new GH album has been delayed twice - and
is now set for a Nov. 2nd release. FYI

920.14 | ATMP - Public Service Announcement | GUNSTK::MGINGRAS | Roll Over, Chuck Berry! | Thu Oct 22 1987 22:22 | 12 |
| Is there really a scarcity of Harrison's "ALL THINGS MUST PASS"?
For those who have been seeking this in earnest, I saw five (5!)
brand spanking new copies of it at Manchester CD only two hours
ago (this being Thursday, the 22nd). They were selling it for $38
and some change. Sounds like an easy score if you live in the southern
New Hampshire area.
Just a mention (even though it doesn't belong here), they had a
West German import of TARKUS ($22.99). First time I see it on disc
anywhere.

920.15 | haven't seen ATMP in the Northwest | PUGET::WARREN | | Sun Oct 25 1987 20:46 | 5 |
| I've been watching for it, and for any Harrison for years...never
seen any in the greater Seattle area. I'd pay the $40 for ATMP and
for the Bangaledesh soundtrack.

920.16 | Still looking for ATMP | MSDSWS::HENDERSON | Mark Henderson @NOO | Fri Jan 22 1988 09:37 | 5 |
| Has anyone seen ATMP lately? I look for this album in every CD store
I come across and haven't found it yet. It has a catalog number
assigned by Capitol Records, but the record dept manager at one store
said it is common practice for the record companies to assign catalog
numbers long before the actual release date.
