You can train any of your senses to notice the differences that
would appear subtle to someone untrained. People can taste the
difference between wine, or beer. By listening to "quality music"
(i.e., expensive stereos and CDs) you train your ears to notice
subtle differences. If I listen to my old stereo now, I can hear
limitations I didn't know existed before I got my new one.
It may not ONLY be age, but also the lack of this training. Of
course, I don't think that there are any audiophiles in Congress
either. . .

Is there something about 838 that attracts this kind of random
reply? Or is this the new repository for non-sequitisms,
like the "This doesn't belong here" note in S**PB*X... ?

Why "S**PB*X"? It's "Soapbox".
838 was a reply to another note. 838.1 was a flame (a flame making
most of the 'box seem mild) "educating" noters about the difference
between "reply" and "write".
838.0 has since been moved to the proper note, 838.1 was deleted,
probably by the author who became embarrased about over reacting.
So, the rest of this (838...) no longer makes a whole lot of sense.
