I agree. `Street Life' is one great value!

It is also worth noting that this CD contains Roxy's version of
Lennon's "Jealous Guy," which was previously unavailable on any
    LP.

Yes, it's studio. I believe it was released as a single in the UK.
I like Ferry's rendition as much as (if not better than) Lennon's
    version on the `Imagine' album.

Bruce Cockburn's "Waiting for a Miracle" compilation CD on Gold Castle
clocks in at 74:02. It contains 18 songs released as singles from 1970
to 1987, many of the early ones currently unavailable in the USA on
domestic LP's or CD's. It also contains two new songs: Waiting for a
Miracle and Stolen Land. It's based on a 22-song double LP. It's
an excellent survey of his career.

New Order's double disc set "Substance" (which in LP form is only
one record, but with CD you get a disc containing all their flip-sides
too) lasts 150 minutes in total (75 per disc). T-rific value, even
for someone who isn't a hardcore Joy Division/New Order fan.

    Andy,

The double disc costs 15.99 (it's being marketed along similar lines
to the "Simple Minds - Live In The City Of Light" album), it isn't
a special limited edition or anything of that sort. It contains
all their A-sides (+ B-sides on the second CD) from 1981 to the
present day ("True Faith" is the most recent one featured)

WHERE???!!!!

I've been looking for this CD at a DECENT price since it came out! The LOWEST
I've seen it for is $25.99!!! Most places I've seen are charging over $30 for
it!

I was about to buy the vinyl instead, since I figured most of the B-sides
aren't worth it and $16 is a lot to pay for a group I'm not all THAT big on
(New Order, to me, is a pale shadow of Joy Division's glory).

    Mark,
bear in mind that we're talking UK marketing strategies, there's
an increasing trend in the UK to put this sort of material out at
a reduced price (kinda makes the normal 23.00 seem a bit steep!).
The new Elton John "Live In Australia" is another example...double
disc for 17.99. Maybe one day it'll catch on in the States!

On the subject of New Order, the B-sides are *definitely* worth
having. I prefer the post-1983 stuff rather than songs like
"Procession" and "Ceremony" (I like my music to be a tad cheerful!),
and the instrumental versions of "Blue Monday" ["On The Beach"],
and "Perfect Kiss" ["Kiss Of Death" <- that's cheerful??? :-)] are
particularly good. Of course, they're all extended mixes too.
I'm not very hot on New Order, indeed, I managed to fit all the
tracks I like onto one C90 tape, but even so at that price it's
*still* good value. I hope you get one soon.

"Live in Australia" is a double album (on vinyl) but only a single
CD! (at least in the UK). 18 PDS (29 BUCKS) for one CD is something
I hope doesn't catch on elsewhere!!!

I checked with Our Price and you're absolutely right! Yeesh...
I guess I saw "CD Boxed Set" in the ad and immediately assumed it
to be a double disc (since it's double vinyl and "double play"
cassette)..I wonder how many others are making the same mistake
right up until they part with the money!! The CD has 14 tracks
on it, and unless they've packed over 90 minutes onto the CD that
is indeed a pretty outrageous price, even for a limited edition.

I got the New Order CD today and was shocked to find that it's only
146.5 minutes of music, not 150. Shame onyou Ian for leading me
    so far astray...:-) :-) :-)

It's actually not that bad - although the fact that some tracks
are on both CD's with different titles, one with a vocal, one without,
    is a *little* irritating...

RE: Substance. If you choose to discount the tracks that appear
"twice", then you still have 18 or 19 tracks that only appear once.
Also, some of the instrumentals are quite different to the originals.
Or maybe, I'm just biased. I think it's great.

It is the first CD I've bought that says "Made in U.K." on it though.

Andy, I agree in part about the vocal/instrumental thing. Unless
    you're a dyed-in-the-wool New Order fan I don't suppose you'd guess
that "The Beach" is the instrumental of "Blue Monday" from reading
the booklet! It is a tremendous value disc tho', and I say that
as someone who *hates* all the pre-'83 material (about 7 tracks-worth).

Going back to the length of discs, the longest I have seen is
`Filligree & Shadow' by This Mortal Coil, who sort of blend classical
with ethereal stuff. It's really good and clocks in at 74:17, beating
the first disc of substance by 1 second! Definately worth a listen.

The three Bruce Sprinsteen Live CDs are all over 70 minutes. Another
long one is the Tchaikowsky/Rachmaninov Concertos (75+).

What annoys me are the really short CDs c.30 mins - what a waste. Some
of the EC CDs are good as you get an extra track or a longer version.

It didn't even advertise the fact that it was long. Nice selection

(Isn't "Fotheringay" on THE BEST OF SANDY DENNY?")

I alos find it interesting that the fact that the disc is over
the standard limit is not being pushed by Island. But then, to
be truthful, there really seems to have been amazingly little
reaction to Ryko's 80-minute Mission of Burma CD (possibly because,
80 minutes or no, no one wants to listen to MoB -- I like them,
but they certainly aren't for everyone).

Sorry for getting your hopes up Jerry. I forgot to mention that
I got it in London at the Virgin Megastore during a recent business

show up at Rockit Records about 2-3 months after I buy it, so I'd

Fotheringay (the song) isn't on Best of Sandy Denny, though Fotheringay
(the group) is represented by 3 songs.
