This is my recommendation. I have a Sony CDP-? (I am not sure of
the number) but I only paid 199.00 for mine and It is different
from other units in that it is not the standard 17 inch unit but
I believe 15 inch. It sounds great to me and has some neat features
(shuffle etc.) I bought it will in college so cost was a big concern,
but Sony also has a good name and the sound is great. I have
seen the unit since then (december) in Service Merchandise although
I orignally got mine at Lechmere.
I think it would be perfect for what you have in mind. Of
course there are off brands that would probably be cheaper, but
the sound quality may not be so hot. Go Sony.

| Pardon me while I pull on my "Miss Manners" gloves...
You want to rent disks and tape them for your personal use? I'm
afraid that this attitude is what is sparking the copy-protection
mania in the recording industry right now. How about you find a
player that wires a royalty payment to the artist every time you
pirate a copy of their CD? I'm sure CBS would like to help you
out.
Grumblingly yours,
Steve

| I would have to agree with .2,
tsk, tsk,... this is why they are gonna keep the price as high as
the market will bear, to cover the costs that they don't recover
from those who copy. If 10 people do this that is 10 more CDs they
don't get profits from, and 10 more reasons to add Copyguard or
whatever the stupid name is.
Sigh

get the unique decode key matching the serial number of each player.

Well, I'm not even going to mention copying and stuff...
Definitely go Sony. I saw a CDP-35 at Service Merchandise
for $180.00 a few weeks ago. It's one year newer than my CDP-30
which was $199.00 at the same store.
I've never had any problems with my player, and, because it's
a Sony, I know if anything ever went wrong I could get
it serviced anywhere quickly.
