    Well, for the first time I bought a new CD and got change back from a
    ten! 
    
    "Compact Jazz" is a new line of "bargain" cds by Verve and Mercury.
    
    Newbury Comics at Harvard Square had them priced at $10.99, and
    with their now long running $2.00 off sale, that put the price
    at $8.99.
    
    Old works by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn (sp?), Gerry
    Mulligan, Stan Getz and many others are featured in the series.
    Each disc runs for about 60 minutes of music. 
    
    If you already have much of the Verve or Mercury discs available
    for a given artist, you probably won't find much use for these discs.
    And if your looking for crystal sound, you probably won't like them
    either.
    
    But, if you just want a good cross section of an individuals work,
    want to learn a bit more about someone before investing a lot in
    a bunch of their recordings, or if you'd like a good jazz sampler,
    give them a try.

    The same collection is available in Europe. I bought Ella Fitgerald,
    Chick Corea and Astrud Gilberto (the girl from Ipenema (Stan Getz))
    each at 71 ff. Sort of a 'best of' collection. Good value for money.
    Excellent introduction to the artists. Likely to be redundant if you
    have any other records of the given artist.
