     Don't know if this is applicable to your Technics, but the same
    thing happened to me with my Carver DTL-100. The unit was only a
    few weeks old when it also refused to cough up the 1812 Overture!
    My problem was the carrier unit was misaligned - a slight adjustment
    made things all better, and the unit hasn't shown this type of
    antisocial behavior in 18 months. Given the fact that your player
    has had problems reading discs, you might want to give the player
    a good cleaning internally - there may be dust on the optics.
