752.0. "Barbra Streisand: One Voice" by QUARK::LIONEL (We all live in a yellow subroutine) Tue May 12 1987 23:54

One of my "free" CDs from Lechmere was a new one from
Barbra Streisand: "One Voice", basically the soundtrack from
her concert last year (which was also broadcast as an HBO
special and is available from CBS/FOX Video). The CD
has all the music from the concert and little of the
environmentalist chatter between songs (but never fear - the
missing text is printed in the booklet!)

This was an outdoor concert, so I'm not expecting perfect
studio quality, but it sounds very good indeed. My one regret
had been that my videotapes of the HBO special (I taped it twice)
were in mid-fi mono, so now I'm thrilled to have
a high quality stereo version. The music is mostly good,
typical Streisand. "Evergreen" is VERY well done, "Somewhere"
(my favorite of hers) misses out because it's the show opener,
and gets hit with applause and talk (but check it out on
    "The Broadway Album" - wow!)

The disk is over fifty minutes long, and is thus a relative bargain
for pop disks nowadays. There's no clue at all to how it was
recorded, so I'll assume AAD. Columbia CK40788
