| There is a Lechmere sale this week on all CDs:
Marked price Sale price
up to 12.99 8.98 (up to 30% off)
13.99 to 15.99 11.98 (14 to 25% off)
16.99 to 17.99 13.98 (18 to 22% off)
That's the way it is described in the sales brochure, and the
employees were using the brochure to ring up CDs. I don't know
what happens for CDs marked 19.99, I didn't buy any of them.
I beleive the sale ends 1 August 1987.

| Worth noting...Lechmere will give rain checks for any CD that is currently
out of stock. I went last night to pick up a few that I've waiting
to go on sale, namely Fresh Aire III and V by Manneheim Steamroller.
All they had in stock was Fresh Aire V and VI...so I picked up V
and got a rain check for III.

All CD's marked down... from cheapest up to 89.99.
I bought Hooligans for 23.98, reg 31.99.
Did anybody else see the 'limited edition' Woodstock 'Master
Tapes' on CD. 89.99 for two lousy discs, and they don't
even say who's on it.

| How about "Hot Rocks" by the Rolling Stones? Before the
sale they had lots of copies, now none (Nashua Store).
Does anybody know what the original price was? How
much is that in sales price terms?
I also noticed that some CD's were marked up for the sale
from 15.99 to 16.99 (like some of the Oldies Collections).
I think this is so they map to the $14 sale price instead
of the $12 one. Did anybody else notice this? (or what it
"Just my imagination ...")

| Naturally, the first good CD sale in half a year happens while I'm in
California on business.
Anyone know if Lechmere has a regular schedule for these across-the-board
CD sales?

746.9 | Another Lechmere sale: 4 for the price of 3 | ULTRA::HERBISON | Less functionality, more features | Fri Aug 21 1987 11:59 | 10 |
| This Saturday only (22 August 1987), Lechmere is having a sale
on all music (but who cares about anything but CDs?).
If you buy three items at their `low everyday price' then you
get a forth item (not more expensive then the others) free.
I guess they think that some people need encouragement to buy
music in quantities. Not me, I find it hard to `just buy one'.

| What really ticks me off is when they end a sale week with a special one-day
sale. It's OK to have a one-day sale on something that wasn't on sale during
the week, but it's an insult to your customers when you drag them into the
store early in the week for a markdown, only to mark it down further at the
"end" of the sale.
Due to their better investment value, I decided earlier in this week to buy
exclusively CD's when I buy new vs. used (if I sell for whatever reason, I
lose less than when I buy new vinyl and try to sell it). There's not that
much I want that's still in print, and most are replacements for things I
foolishly sold during a pre-moving-day over-zealous purge of my collection a
few years back, but most are on a Warner/Atlantic/Elektra label. So, I took
advantage of the 20% sale this week and bought about seven CD's. I could have
saved 5% more by waiting until Saturday, getting one or two more CD's for the
same price as what I bought.
I'll probably go Saturday anyway to pick up some Jethro Tull CD's (provided
they have any; no one seems to want to carry them), which weren't part of the
Warner/Atlantic sale, but I still feel burned and insulted.
There were no CD sales last week. That would have been a more appropriate
week to have a one-day sale.

746.11 | Get the sale price at Lechmere... | FXADM::SORRENTINO | | Fri Aug 21 1987 14:48 | 19 |

Lechmere policy is if the item you buy a month ago or less is
at a lower price now then you bring in the receipt and get the
difference. You can not go wrong. Bring in the receipt for the
seven disks and ask for the difference between the price you got
them for and the price you could get them for. Done.
I have done this several times at Lechmere. Once I have even done
this six weeks after I initially purchased the item. Had to see
a manager, but the manager said 'no problem.'
I guess Lechmere does not what you to hesitate to buy
anything. :-)
Lechmere also has the policy that you can return anything within
one month, for any reason. Sooo if they did not have the above
mentioned policy they would be forced to do a lot of paper work
and accounting for all of those people who would return things and
then buy them again. (to save the difference)

746.12 | Return Policy on Music? | TOOK::MICHAUD | Jeff Michaud | Fri Aug 21 1987 20:04 | 9 |
| Re: .-1
> ... policy .... return .... one month .... any reason ....
Are you sure this is true of music items? I would think
that once you broke the seal, you could only return it
in exchange for a new one of the same item. Otherwise
we could buy lots of CD's, take up to a month to tape
them, then return them.

746.13 | ...I would not STEAL music... | FXADM::SORRENTINO | | Mon Aug 24 1987 11:55 | 15 |

Of course for music the standard policy is exchange for only
the same title, but they will not argue with the fact that
you just got that disk for your sister and your brother got the
same one for here... Sooo you would like another title.
You can exchange anything. Music of course makes them think,
but they do want to be accommodating, so you can get away with it.
I recieved two 'Get Close' CDs for my birthday
both ended up getting opened, my mistake. But with a big smile
and a little persuation, I convinced them to let me get another
title. I have not ripped off music, and would not recommend taking
advantage of Lechmere's concern for their customers. I mentioned
this policy because it makes buying CD players from Lechmere very
appealing.

| It sounds like the "4 for the price of 3" sale means you buy 3 items
at Lechmere's "everyday low price", which is not the same as the
sale price this week. In other words, you might not save very much,
if anything, by waiting 'til Saturday.

746.15 | | REGENT::SCHMIEDER | | Wed Aug 26 1987 18:22 | 8 |
| That was last Saturday. Additionally, the Woburn store had a different policy
than the other stores and applied the Atlantic/Warner sale as well!
As much as I spent Saturday, I don't feel bad because I averaged slightly less
than $10 per disc, between Lechmere and Newbury Comics!
