740.0. "Woodstock on CD" by MQFSV1::LEDOUX (This Space Intentionally left Blank) Thu Apr 30 1987 15:31

Today, I saw Woodstock on CD (Atlantic Label) at regular
	 $30.00, but i said 2 CD set...

I also saw few month ago the Mobile fidelity on 4 CD at
$80.00. (Too much for my wallet, after all I only work
	 for DEC.)

My question is: Did Atlantic use only "The best of" or
they managed to fit all cuts on 2 CDs?

If the Atlantic version is the full album, I won't wait
	 for christmas...

	 		Thanks to the knowlegeable.

	 					Vince.

I think on vinyl, there was the original "Woodstock", a 3 album
set, followed by "Woodstock 2", a 2 record set. The MFSL 4 disc
CD set contains all of the material from both of those albums,
digitally remastered, etc. I don't know, but it's possible that
the newer Atlantic release contains only material from the first
    album.

Each side of the 5 volume LP set must be less than 15 minutes in
length to fit on a two volume CD. So, the two volume CD set is
probably "the best of" the five LP set.

I concur with Sarah's note, although I've only heard the Atlantic
issue once. Mobile Fidelity deserves high marks for their recordings,
but their prices are absurd. $80 for a four disc set....that's $20
per disc, and I've yet to hear any disc worth that! BTW, have you
spotted the new "gold standard" Mobile Fidelity disc in the stores
yet? That golden little beastie will set you back $25!

The "Woodstock 2" vinyl had Mountain, Canned Heat, Melanie who were
    not on the first volume....

Had some extra Hendrix ("Get My Heart Back Together" which is really
"Hear My Train A'Coming" and "Izabella"), CSNY ("4+20", "Guinivere")
and Jefferson Airplane ("Eskimo Blue Day" and "Saturday Afternnon").

If you have any of this stuff, you have a compilation...if you have
none of this, its just the first three vinyl records.....

I saw the 4 disk set at Lechmere. I thought it said it was Woodstock and
Woodstock II put together.
