I was suprised to find that the SCORPIONS LIVE cd is DDD. This is the first heavy metal cd I seen recorded this way. This is also the first " live" disc I've seen. Does anyone know of any other heavy metal groups that have discs recorded in DDD?

Although I don't agree, some would call Rush heavy metal. Their latest, "Power Windows", is DDD.

Stryper's "To Hell With The Devil" is also DDD. I've also heard their other CD (I think it's their debut album, not sure of the name), but I don't remember if it was DDD also. One comment: I think DDD is pretty much a waste for any heavy metal album, especially one like Scorpions Live. This is no flame (I like the Scorps and many other heavy metal bands), but heavy metal (esp. live) does not have the dynamics that would warrant/justify the expense of DDD (unlike jazz, which does). I am assuming here, of course, that DDD is more expensive to produce than an AAD disc (I'm no recording engineer, so correct me if I'm wrong). Rock on, Adam

re: .2 Actually even if heavy metal music is the most revolting type of music you can imagine CD's of heavy metal could help get the music you like on CD. If the CD industry knows that a heavy metal CD will sell well they might risk producing a CD of more esoteric music against the profits of the heavy metal CDs. Of course this is only a conjecture, but it may be true. ASP

RE. TO .2 : The DDD disc may cost more to produce (maybe $3.00 instead of the $2.00 for a AAD) , but so far the price to the consumer is the same in most cases, whether it be AAD,ADD or DDD. |
