| Interesting that they think the rechargeable pack comes with the
less expensive portables. It came with my (formerly) top-of-the-line
D-77. The AA battery pack is listed as an option. I suggest you
call Sony's toll-free number listed on your warranty and ask them
where you could buy/order one locally. As for price, the last one
I saw was in London, and it was about $55 in the duty free shop.
My pack lasts about 4 1/2 to 5 hours playing disks, much longer
for the radio alone (like 7 hours, I guess). I let it recharge
overnite. I don't know how long it takes to fully charge it. Sony
says the pack will survive about 200 recharges.

You can get a double capacity recharger from GE that can charge
up to 8 AA's at a time. My walkman gets about 8 hours on 2
charged batteries; I don't know how this would translate to
a discman. You could probably set yourself up for about $25.

I had a similar problem around Christmas, I called Natural Sound in
Framingham and got one from them in about 2 weeks. The Sony part #
was BP-200 (or something like that), and N. S. charged me about $50
for it. It gives you the ability to play the CD player upto about
4 hours. If you live in Mass. try giving Natural Sound a call, they
may have the battery packs in stock. I believe they also had the
car cigarette lighter adapter.
Enjoy,

| If you don't already have the AC adaptor for the D-55, make sure
you get one of those, too. You'll need it to recharge the BP-200
(interesting naming convention for a Battery Pack expected to last
for 200 charges).

If the BP-200 lasts for 200 charges, what do they want us to make of
the D-55???

| BP-200 follows Sony's typical naming conventions. Their first
battery pack was the BP-100 for the D-7. The BP-200 is for the
D-10 (only?). Sony likes to add 100 to model numbers when
improving its line. There should be no correlation to the any
specific features of the unit.

| Where is a good place to get a rechargeable power pack for my Sony
D-50? I like to use it in the car and my cigarette lighter outlet
is not working.
Oh, and how much should I expect to pay?
Thanks

| Re: .8
The D-50 is the Japanese-market D-5, yes? You may have a hard time
finding the battery pack, which doubles as a carrying case. I saw
one at Manufacturers Marketplace in Saugus, but that was at least
six months ago. Your friendly local Sony dealer (though he may
not be so friendly if he finds out you don't have a US model player)
can probably order one for you - you might have to pay as much as
$45 or $50, and that's without batteries!
