721.0. "Jazz re-releases on Columbia CD" by STAR::FARNHAM (Beadyeyed,Pastyface,Tight*ss Puritan) Tue Apr 14 1987 20:24

    Columbia has just reissued some more classic jazz performances.
    Among them are Miles Davis/Gil Evans "Porgy and Bess", Miles Davis
    "Round About Midnight" (the arrangement Herbie Hancock/Bobby Mc
    Ferrin copped for the movie score), Duke Ellingn "Live at Newport"t",
    Charles Mingus "Mingus Ah Um", and a couple of others. Although
    I cannot vouch for the sound quality (yet), I have all of the above
    on LP (except for the Mingus, which I bought but have not listened
    to as yet), and the musical quality is supb. So far, these recordings,
    plus "Kind of Blue", are the only things I have on LP which I will
    also immediately grab in CD.

721.1I found a few too.NCADC1::PEREZBatches, we don't need no stinkin' batchesSun Apr 19 1987 00:3911
    I found several of Oscar Peterson Trio on CD. I don't remember
    the label (might have been Columbia). In particular the one with
    Milt Jackson on Vibraphone is great. There is some hiss but the
    music is smooth just like it was in 1961 when the original was done
    (according to the liner notes).

    I also heard one of Charles Mingus (also from the library). Same
    as the above.  Nice!!

    Cheers,
    Dave
