711.1 | Hah! Cheap? In Colorado Springs? You've got to be kidding! | SSDEVO::OAKEY | SCUBA diving -- The only way to fly! | Wed Apr 08 1987 17:15 | 9 |
| You've got to be kidding! I sit here, reading all these notes with
stuff like "CDs break the $10 mark", etc.
You pay from $15 (excuse me, $14.99) on up in this town!
Roak
I hope someone local proves me wrong in a following reply, but I've
never seen (except for a special here and there) any CD under $14!

| Independent Records has all their CDs priced at $12.98.
Musicland (?) in the Citadel has some selections of newer
stuff at $8.99. For example the new Simply Red CD is
$8.99. The problem is that the selection at this price
is very limited and maybe includes 20 titles. Other
than that I'm not sure but will be out and about this
weekend checking other locations. I'll let you know
if I find out anything.

| The average prices are pretty much what Roger describes. The
best selections are likely to be found at the Sound Warehouse
on Academy & Dublin and The Prelude downtown. The Prelude
specializes in Classical and Jazz. If you do get downtown to
check them out there is also an Independent and Budget Tape
and Records nearby. The Budget is worth checking because
they sometimes get something interesting.
The Sound Warehouse has a pretty wide selection; a lot of the
usual stuff, but very little that's "interesting". I usually
go there to look for Varese Sarabande soundtracks. It's also
easy to get to without having to actually get on Academy.
The McKenzie-White Book store also has a few classical CD's
that you might not find elsewhere in town. Their prices
have gotten reasonable in the last couple of years and it's
a good book store. It's at Academy and Vickers. You *can*
get to it from the Sound Warehouse without getting on Academy,
but you need a guide. (See note 55.* for information about
Academy International Speed... opps Boulevard in the
conference COMET::COLORADO).

There is also a comic book store downtown which is along the
way between the Prelude and Budget. At the other end of the
same street (a 10-15 minute walk) is a stereo equimpent store
that has a few CD's for sale (The Sound Shop). It might be
worth the walk if you want to make a full sweep of things.

711.4 | $14 is still less than 11.99 pounds! | RDGENG::LESLIE | Andy, CSSE ME for VOTS/OSAK/X400 | Thu Apr 09 1987 02:23 | 2 |

| You may want to check the paper. Record bar in the citadel mall
often has 12.99 sales for specific types of music, sometimes its
classical other times rock. New age music holds constant at $17.00
though.

I also suggest checking the independant record annex on platte ave.
They deal in used records/tapes/CD's I go there about twice a week
and have found some great deals. The pricing is $9.98 for single
and $18.98 for 2 volume sets. The selection is fair to good with
saturday being about the best shopping day(best selection).
