Note 1053.0 LASER "ROT"? 2 replies

A co-worker told me that some of his laser disks have started to
"rot", that is air got in between the plastic sandwich and the
aluminium oxydised rendering it useless. Apparently Pioneer is
aware of the problem but not talking!. Just wait until the CD's
start to rot too. Have any LV owners had this occur?

Note 1053.1 LASER "ROT"? 1 of 2

I saw an article in one of the mags I get (Video or Video Review).
Pioneer not only owned up to the problem, but offer replacement
of the disks. If your dealer won't replace them, Pioneer will.
From reading the article, Pioneer is footing the bill, the dealers
are just acting as collection points. There was no age limit on
    the disks either.

Yup. There is a number you can call if the dealer you bought the
    disk from will not cooperate.

The is extensive discussion of this in the laserdisc notes file and
a couple of magasines (The Perfect Vision, Disc Deals).

No - CDs are manufactured with a different process that does not
have the adhesive used in LVs that is susceptible to "laser rot".
