682.0. "Rock and Roll at the FILLMORE" by GRAMPS::LASKY () Mon Mar 16 1987 12:41

I was in Leachmere's on Friday night and noticed one of my favorite
old rock and roll albums in CD "Joe Cocker Mad dogs and Englishman"
live at the Fillmore! Has any body heard this album in CD. The
price for the CD was steep so at the time I did not pick it up.

If someone has heard it I could be convinced very easily. I love
my CD player but I must confess this is some exspensive hobby!!

Did you see the MFSL version? I picked that up a while
ago, and it sounds great on my girlfriend's compact Sony
(bfd). Al (PUZZLE::)Ector borrowed it to listen on his
much better system - I'll see if I can convince him to
        jot a few lines ...

O.K. You talked me into it. I have the original album on R/R tape,
so when I borrowed Andy's discs, I did an A-B comparison using
headphones. I am/was/is impressed! The mastering MFSL did was
commendable on their version. I assume that A&M is now trying to
peddle their own, using their own mastering techniques. Go ahead
and buy it. Considering the age of the stuff, there was only negligible
hiss, and the music is so much brighter sounding without the AAA
compression, that it sounds like a new concert.
