BRAVO!
The CD manufacturers tell us they can barely keep up with the demand
due to limited pressing facilities then they waste capacity with
*this* garbage!
On the other hand, I understand that the BB's latest album is at
the top of the sales charts. Looks like the lure of $15.00 a pop
won out over taste...AGAIN!

A friend recently played a Beastie track off their latest,
and there is a distinct sound of a Jimmy Page lick.
Not just someone playing it, but the original lick, directly
lifted right off the "Houses of the Holy" album.
I would say they should get sued... but from the alltime
blues rip-off artist Page? I doubt it.

RE: .0, .1
Granted that the music the Beastie Boys bless us with, may not
be up to your "tastes" as to what should be on CD.
I however, happen to like other qualities about CD's. They
are extremely convenient, very long lasting, and regardless of the
music that's on it vastly superior in any respect to LPs,cassettes,
or 8-tracks.
EVEN if that wasn't true, I'd probably buy CD's for their compact
storage ability, their convenient usability and the longevity of
the medium over tape or vinyl.
So someone who likes the Beastie Boys may own a CD player (there
are others out there beside Classical nuts who own CD players you
know 8^) and may want the convenience of having their music on the
CD.

| re: getting sued
It's happened before, but not for copyright infringement :^)...
Most everyone allowed to come into contact with the BBoys on
this tour has been required to sign a contract waiving most
of their rights to litigate...
...Or at least this is what I'm told...

| re: .3
You are absolutely correct on all points and I, for one, am not
trying to say that BB "fans" should be denied their Constitutional
Rights or anything like that. What I *am* doing is expressing an
opinion and nothing more (please see .1's disclaimer). I just think
it's a shame that money/greed could hold back production of more
"important" CD's (how ever *you* define "important"). Wasting
capacity and plastic on a fad when there is Mozart, Beatles, what-ever
material just *screaming* to be CD'd makes me ill. Sure, somewhere
out there in CD-land there are those who feel that Beastie Boys
is "important" material; I do not ascribe to that school of thought.
Yes, I am sure that these same individuals want their BB sources
to be compact, high quality, etc., etc., etc.; that's fine.
I'll set my flame down a few notches now and do a NEXT UNSEEN...

And *I* agree with you on your points. I just wanted to point
out that someone out their could argue the validity of Beastie Boys
being on CD (especially seeing as how it's the #1 seller right now
8^(
I didn't think I flamed. Back to better things ...

Oh yes! Let's let the "Ministry of Culture" decide what proper use of society's
cultural production capacity is. Maybe our five-year-plan can eventually
provide capacity for less important works.

P.S. we should probably take further discussion of this to 2B::THENEWSOAPBOX if
any of you commies think it's worth it.

Re: .*
I don't think the Beasty Boys are the real question here. The fact
that the Beasty Boys can be had on a CD should be good news to all
of us, since this indicates to me that the Record companies are
committed to the CD format, and ANY newly released top 10 album is most
likely to be made available in CD format as part of a normal release
cycle.

Now...let's get back to more relevant CD discussions, shall we?
