643.2 | latest but not earliest | CACHE::WHALEN | Some people actually like fruit cake | Mon Feb 16 1987 18:07 | 11 |
| No, I havn't seen "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" on CD.
But, I recently picked up the latest (Gaudi) on CD. Be careful
about playing the first track (La Sagrada Familia) loud, it can be an
amp/speaker killer. I was playing it loud one Saturday, and had some
breakers in my amp (NAD 3140) pop.
Note to those that are wondering... 643.1 is missing because I wrote
it, then re-wrote it after getting home and correcting an error.

I just came across an advertisement for "The Alan Parsons Project
Complete Compact Disc Catalogue", as you said, "Tales of Mystery
and Imagination" doesn't seem to be included. On a whim, I decided
to check the label of album, and found that it is Polygram, where
the rest of the albums are on ARISTA.

643.5 | Bad "I Robot" | COMICS::BAKER | | Sun Feb 22 1987 08:55 | 18 |
| I bought "I Robot" but returned it because of what can best be
described as "distorted crackling" 20 secs into track 10. (I guess
there's a technical term for this but I don't know it).
It may have been a duff disc but it was the only one in stock so
I couldn't swap it. I've yet to obtain another. Can anyone say
whether this occurs on other discs (a duff batch perhaps?). My
disc number was 610 142 2893 519 01# and on the ARISTA label.
Thanks,
Stephen.
PS As an aside, I've assumed that the disc number (The one around
the central hole) differs between batches. Is this correct? I know
of two different numbers for Brothers in Arms so that is what I'm
basing the theory on.

| Re: .5 (the "aside")
Most discs I have examined seem to just have the catalog number
stamped on the disc so it can be identified if necessary. Perhaps
some manufacturers also include a batch number, but I haven't seen
anything that would indicate that.

I just checked my copy (I'm logged in from home) and I didn't
get any extraneous noise at all.
Regarding the number, the only number etched on my copy of the
disc is "DIDX-58 21". Mine is on the Arista label, too.

The Brothers in Arms disc was originally manufactured and packaged
in Germany. Since that time, a few weeks after release there was
an "American" packaging of the disc. Possibly another part # also.

Yes, Tales on Mystery and Imagination... is distributed
by Polygram but it's label is now Casablanca ( Vinyl # MIP-1-9463)
It Used to be a 20th Century Record label (9209-508).
I Beleive Casablanca is owned by the Fox, I've seen "Fame"
soundtrack on Casablanca CD. So, since this label makes CD
it is possible that ToMaI:EAP will be out on CD some days.
I re-bought Tales last november on vinyl and it seemed
freshly pressed, if they released it that way....

soundtrack from the movie "Ladyhawke"? I love the music. I was
hoping that since AP has been releasing all of his albums on CD,
there might be some push to release "Ladyhawke" as well.

that LADYHAWKE's music was by Parson's, too. But I have the

busy right now, but I'll take a look shortly to see what's on

| Jerry, you're right - the music is composed and conducted by Andrew
Powell, but music score produced by Alan Parsons, performed by the
Philharmonia Orchestra (aren't they the ones who do the orchestration
on his LPs/CDs/etc.?)

Saturday on the radio the DJ anounced the release of
Parson's Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Edgar Allan Poe.
I have been praying for that CD to come out... Well, I
still have to wait 'til January. (no precise date)
Those of you Parson's lover: Check the Parsons bin at

I picked up "Tales of Mystery and Imagination - Edgar Allen Poe" last
night at Tower records in Boston. (I got the last copy that they had
out in the bin.)
The CD is different from the album. They have done remixing, added
some new music, redone some passages, and added some narration. Even
the cover of the album is different! I guess that they had Orsen
Welles read some Poe for the original album, but never included it.
They put that in this time, so don't be surprised when the disc starts
with his voice. There are extensive liner notes explaining the reason
for the "update" as well as listing all lyrics.
I think that it sounds great! The dynamic range is tremendous, the
recording is clean, and the music is great. It's a little different
than what I'm used to from the album, but that makes it even more
interesting.
