642.0. "Cream CD's" by DVINCI::REHILL (I was so much older then) Sun Feb 15 1987 12:08

    	Has anyone purchased the CD of the Cream's Wheels of Fire?

    	I grew up listening to the Atco release of this Lp. Well actually
    it was a friend's LP. I finally got around to buying the RSO re-release
    of it, and the sound quality was terrible. It sounded very muddy.

    	Since the CD is a double CD, I'm not willing to shell out Thirty
    some odd dollars for a poorly made CD.

    	Thanks,

    	Jim

642.1AKOV68::BOYAJIANA disgrace to the forces of evilMon Feb 16 1987 04:2611
    I grew up on the Atko release as well, and I bought the CD. I
    don't hear anything particularly wrong with it, but it's
    evident from other notes in this file that others have more
    sensitive ears than mine, or are imagining things.

    If you can ever get into BCD (either Harvard Square or Newbury
    Street), ask if they can put the disc on the player so you can
    hear it. If they have one that's not sealed up, they'll usually
    be happy to do so.

642.2Fresh CreamCUPOLA::HAKKARAINENAlbatross!Thu Oct 22 1987 10:2711
    Just picked up Fresh Cream. I haven't listened to the album for
    a long time and, so, was excited to revisit an old favorite.

    This is an odd cd to listen to on headphones. The mix is such that
    several tracks have a single instrument on a single channel; this tends
    to pull my head to the side. Overall, the music is as good as ever;
    the sound is fair.

    Because I couldn't located my lp copy, I remain puzzled about the
    last two tracks on the cd. It seems that ``The Coffee Song'' and
    ``Wrapping Paper'' weren't on the (American) lp. Correct?

    Re: .2

    Neither was "Spoonful".

    The original U.S. LP replaced "Spoonful" with "I Feel Free" which
    didn't appear on the U.K. LP.

    "Wrapping Paper" was a U.K. single, "Coffee Song" was previously
    unreleased.

    All except "I Feel Free" made it onto a Polydor reissue a few years
    ago in the U.K.

    Getting all four in one spot on the CD to me is a great deal...and
    the record company doesn't even advertise it!!!!

642.4Wheels of Fire was disappointingKANE::CASTIGLIONEDaytona BoundWed Jan 25 1989 08:577
    I just picked up "Wheels of Fire" and even at half price for the
    2 disk set, it wasn't worth it. The backround noise sounds almost
    as bad as an 8 track. It was nice listening to the old Cream stuff,
    but definaletly not worth the full price for anybody else thinking
    of picking it up.
