641.0. "Heart - Dreamboat Annie (sort of)" by DROID::EDRY (Bob) Thu Feb 12 1987 10:22

I was in Cuomo's yesterday and saw an album I thought I'd never
    see released on CD.

Heart's Dreamboat Annie, only after reading the index of songs
VERY carefully, along with the front of the disc, it appears that
they've taken the liberty of bastardizing this very fine album by
not only leaving off a song (Dream of the Archer), but I think they
also "changed the order of play", shuffling up the tracks.

I've EXTREMELY pissed. I thought I'd never see the day this
album would come out, my eyes light up! BUT after looking more
carefully I got this kind of sinking feeling...

I hate to tell you this, but "Dream of the Archer" is on
LITTLE QUEEN, not DREAMBOAT ANNIE. As for the song order,
it's possible that the order is shuffled only in the label-
ing. I've seen this happen before.

I'm not surprised this came out. After all, I bought the
GREATEST HITS CD a few months back, because I wanted some
of the DA songs and wasn't sure DA would get out on CD.
So naturally, DA would get released.

I also noticed that MAGAZINE has been released (BCD had both).
Which mix it is --- Arista or Mushroom --- remains to be seen,
or rather, heard. I'm going to pick up both of these discs next
    time I'm in BCD.

I picked up DREAMBOAT ANNIE and MAGAZINE today. Both sound
    very good.

DA: Contrary to what .0 believed to be the case, this disc
is complete and in the proper order.

M: Not surprisingly, I suppose, this is the Mushroom mix.
I wonder if perhaps Arista has released its mix on CD
in Europe. Can any of you European noters tell us if
MAGAZINE is released in Europe, and if so, what label
    	it's on?

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between the
    Mushroom and the Arista mixes?

BTW: How does the MAGAZINE CD sound?

Four of the songs were re-mixed for one of the releases. I happen
to like both mixes of each. Let's see if I can remember which ones:
"Magazine", "Devil Delight", "Just the Wine",.... I'm drawing a
    blank on the fourth.

I remember reading when "Magazine" came out that the re-mix was
done at the request of the band, and that an injunction had been
placed to stop distribution of the original release. The album
was released after Heart left Mushroom records over a difference
about promotion. The band didn't like the mix Mushroom had
rush released and wanted to improve it. So I think there are
actually two Mushroom mixes, with the Arista mix being the
same as the second shroom from when Arista picked up
        distribution.

Actually, the way I understand it, the Arista release is the
European release (I paid an import price for it when I first
found it), and it is evidentally the first mix, since I got it
in February 1978 (other events place the date for me --- some
out-of-town friends were visiting for a science fiction conven-
tion, and I had bought a second copy for one of those friends),
and the Mushroom version claims that the remixes were done in
    March 1978.
