636.0. "The Art of Noise" by 43156::ANDY_LESLIE (Andy `{o}^{o}' Leslie, ECSSE. OSI.) Mon Feb 09 1987 03:40

Just a note [:-)] to recommend "In Visible Silence" by The Art of
    Noise.

    Superb!

I have seen one other AoN CD, but it seemed to be old - 1983. Has
anyone any knowlege of recent albums?

What's that? You've seen another Art of Noise CD? Where?

I saw, and bought "Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise" on pre
recorded cassette at Newbury Comics, but only after the clerk
assured me that to his knowlege it was not available on CD.
It sounds so good, even in this form, that I'll surely pay
for the CD if I can locate one.

First, thanks to John R Covert for his recommendation.

Second, I have this feeling the other AoN CD was called "Fred" or
somesuch. The liner notes said it was recorded simultaneously with
    another album.

I'm pleased to say that I found that other Art of Noise CD
at Newbury Comics in Framingham last night. It's called
"daft" and is a compilation from "Who's Afraid of the Art
of Noise", "Into Battle", and "Moments of Love", from
1983 and 1984 -- sixteen tracks in all.

It is an import, on the ZTT label (the same people who brought
us Frankie Goes to Hollywood) and the code is ZCID Q2.

    HEY!

Would anyone like to part with a copy of the AoN 's

Reworks of the Art of Noise

It is a Japanese import cd and is (as far as I know) out of print
in the U.S. I saw it at BCD once and missed my chance. I have the
album which is a combination of live material and remixed versions
of popular songs. Any help in locaating one is greatly appreciated.
Send me a mail message and we'll talk deal later.

    thanks in advance

    ART OF NOISE
In No Sense? Nonsense [CHINA WOL4 LP/Cass]
    =====================

The Art Of Noise's main fault is that they are not really very
entertaining. Who's Afraid Of had the shock value to fool people
it was better than it was - play it tomorrow and see what you think
now - but there's been so little progression between then and In
No Sense, that their vaunted 'pushing back the barriers' looks like
briefly moving the goalposts. Dragnet, a recent single, is joined
by A Day At The Races and How Rapid as adventures in beats that
have no understanding of rhythm. Other tracks include a percussion
and wailing guitar chase, snatches of the Ely Cathedral Choir, 10
seconds of passing pedestrians recorded in an underpass somewhere
and several snippets of New Agey clonking and bonking. It's all
excellently recorded, but comes over like the sort of thing hi-fi
buffs use to listen to their very expensive equipment.

"Q" rates it as "**", which in their terminology means "Poor"

In - No - Sense! Nonsense! by The Art of Noise. China Records CDD 1570
The Art of Noise "inside information" address is given below .

Sound 9, Performance 8. Recommended for purchase.

Once again there are many short tracks, run into each other with
various sound effects. There are 16 tracks, best track at the moment,
    to me is Dragnet.

There is no getting away from it, The Art of Noise are W I E R D - but
fun! Since John Covert introduced them to me via the In Visible Silence
release, I've been astonished to find that I actually like this stuff.

Much more information is given in the liner notes for I-N-S-N than IVS.
But it was unclear to me whether this was a digital recording. I think
it's just a very good analogue recording. Sound levels are varied, as
on all AoN releases, but no hiss is audible to me during the quieter
    passages.
