632.0. "PROTON 830R CD PLAYER!!" by SLDA::PINSONNEAULT (Eric Pinsonneault 223-2763) Fri Feb 06 1987 14:00

I was wondering if I could get a little assistance. I am thinking
about buying a CD player at a moderate price (below $400) that will
not run into many problems in the future. I presently have a PROTON
380 receiver that I am very very pleased with. The other day I saw
in a CD review magazine that PROTON also makes a CD ( the PROTON 830R).
Does anyone own a unit or know anything about it? I know PROTON products
are very reliable. Also where do you think I could find such a unit, I've
had problems running down PROTON dealers around this area. Any help will
be much more than appreciated.

Digital Audio did a review of the 830R, didn't care for it. I
don't think it has any Proton added value, so it may not be
so attractive. I too am a fan of Proton products, but they are
just starting to become a full-range supplier, and I think the
CD player is a simple buy-out.

I have been using a Proton 830R for about 7 months now. It is a
very nice performing unit. It has 4X oversampling, 16 bit decoding,
single beam laser, 20 track programming, and a full function remote
control. I paid $260 from a small dealer in Denver. It (so far)
has been a very reliable unit and is easy to use. Yes, I would
    recommend the Proton.
