631.0. "Leftover D55 and XRP9 at JM" by DELNI::LEHMKUHL (DECnet (Lowend) Product Mgr) Tue Feb 03 1987 14:02

I was in Jordan Marsh at Pheasant Lane in Nashua on Saturday. They
have two floor sample portables on sale - one Sony D55 and one
Toshiba XR-P9. These are both history, but the prices seemed right
and are negotiable. The Toshiba was bigger than I would have liked,
but given the Sony reputation, I decided to steer clear of the D55. The
Toshiba was $229 and would make quite a nice home unit (with its
remote). It will do the trick for me on those long, long plane
rides in my future, and the price was better than anything I'll find
Downunder.

At $227.00, I beleive that it's abit too high for a floor model.

Three weeks ago at Fretter (Woburn) I bought the same unit XRP9r
brand NEW for $187.00 (+ 5%) = $197.00.

It is a good little unit, but I do have a question.
The unit I got seems to have an optional DC jack at the back
of the battery pack missing. The sqare hole is covered with a
plastic cover. So I opened the unit and found out that there
is a little PC board in there and a place to solder a jack.

What I did finnaly, I bought a 9V DC power adapter (Radio shack)
with a male female Jack, soldered it to the battery wires, put
some rechargeable batteries (added a diode/resistor) for protection.

So it does work fine, now I can leave the "triangular power sup"
at home and carry the battery pack/ power supply at the office.

My question is, Does anybody saw units with the plug installed ?
If so, did it came with a DC adap/plug that would fit on the
battery pack.?

I saw a Toshiba portable (don't know what model) for $169 at Instant Replay
in Waltham.
