623.0. "Office CD player" by COVERT::COVERT (John R. Covert) Fri Jan 30 1987 14:02

I'm beginning to think I want a CD player in my office.

I don't want a portable; I'm worried about it getting stolen (I'm not willing
to lock it up every day or carry it around).

So, what I'm looking for is a full size unit with a headphone jack and a
volume control.

Remote is not at all necessary.

And I'd consider buying something used.

Suggestions?

I have a Hitachi DA-501 that was a christmas present.
Remote Control. Programmable. 3 Beam. Volume control on the unit.

My father got it at Crazy Eddie's on Broadway in NYC for around
$300, I think. I use the headphone jack a lot since I moved the
unit into my bedroom, away from my stereo.

How and why a full size player is safer from a theft in the office
    environment?

Half the "non-portable" CD players on the market will fit into a
decent size briefcase. Most will fit into a listing case. Last time
I left LKG my briefcase wasn't searched; was yours?

I'd recommend getting one of the portables, and locking it in your
drawer or file cabinet on your way out. Locking up a portable takes
about 10 seconds. It's a LOT more secure than leaving a shelf unit
    out.

Breifcase shmiefcase! When I worked in the mill, we had a
couple of VT100's and an IBM selectric take midnite strolls.
Remember, security isn't going to seal all the exits and strip
search everyone and their desk for you.

If you've got the bucks, get a nice portable job for your
briefcase, and bring it back and forth to work. It'll cost you
maybe $200-$300, with new headphones, and you'll be able to use
it on business trips, vacations, at home, etc.

I've always wanted to build up a 5" format skid plate and mount a
    portable cd player on it.
