613.0. "CD's in Chicago" by OPUS::SZCZYPEK () Wed Jan 21 1987 21:54

	I there anyone out there who could tell me the location(s) of above
    average CD stores in the Chicago area? I've had bad luck finding a
    store which carries the more obscure imported CD's (rock and
    classical).

613.1Try Rose Records?DSSDEV::CHALTASThu Jan 22 1987 08:192
    Get thee to Rose Records on Wabash St. One of the most amazing
    record stores I've ever seen. Other than that I don't know.
613.2a rose by any other name...CRVAX1::KAPLOWThere is no 'N' in TURNKEYThu Jan 22 1987 18:0511
        As the resident Chicago CDer, I'd second Rose. I have lots of
        problems keeping my wife AWAY from them! In addition to the
        downtown store, they have about 6 others, and have just taken over
        the 4 or so Laureys stores. They are your best bet for CD, record,
        tape, or any other media you might need. if they don't have what
        you want, they will always order it for you.

        Where are you anyway. According to my database, OPUS is out east
        somewhere, nowhere near Chicago. let me know what part of the
        metro Chicago area you frequent, and maybe I can give you a
        specific recommendation.
613.3Where am I?OPUS::SZCZYPEKThu Jan 22 1987 22:2211
    Where am I? I'm in Urbana at the U of I. I'm part of a group which
    is based in Littleton MA. OPUS is the group's machine. I log into
    it via TYMNET.

    Chicago is a 2.5 hour drive for me 1-way, so when I make a trip
    up there, I don't want to waste my time looking for CD stores
    with marginal selections.

    Thanks for the recommendation. I may check the place out this weekend.

613.4Figaros in Champaign?DSSDEV::CHALTASMon Jan 26 1987 07:367
    Urbana? Have you tried Figaros on 1st street in Champaign?
    (1 block south of Green St.) It's a classical store, but carries
    some jazz. It's very small, but they'll order most anything.

    (by the way, if you need stereo gear -- go to Glenn Poor's Audio
    at the Southwest corner of Champaign (across from the Original
    House of Pancakes).
