603.0. "(Original) Dave Brubeck Quartet" by STAR::ARANDA (Rem Aranda (DTN) 381-1238 MS:ZK01-3/J33) Mon Jan 12 1987 20:46

I'm listening to a new Brubeck Quartet Fantasy re-issue on CD as I
write: "The Dave Brubeck Quartet, featuring Paul Desmond in Concert".
(This is the real Dave Brubeck Quartet). The CD is composed of two of
the original Fantasy DBQ records (each minus a song): "Jazz at
Oberlin" and "Jazz at College of the Pacific"; both recorded in 1953.
Lest it not be obvious, these live performances were recorded in
monaural. Below is a list of the selections on the CD, referenced back
to the original releases, the items in brackets are the ones from each
record that did not make it to this CD (Fantasy #FCD-60-013).

    (from "Jazz at Oberlin",
    D. Brubeck, P. Desmond, R. Crotty, L. Davis)

The Way You Look Tonight	These Foolish Things	Perdido
	[How High the Moon] Stardust

(from "Jazz at College of the Pacific",
    D. Brubeck, P. Desmond, R. Crotty, J. Davis)

All the Things You Are [Laura] Lullaby in Rhythm
I'll Never Smile Again I Remember You	For All We Know

Incidentally, those of you particularly interested in the missing cuts
should know that the original vinyl was reissued by Fantasy in 1983 as
part of their $5.98 Jazz Classics series, though they're sometimes
difficult to find. The catalog numbers are #OJC-46 (Oberlin) and
#OJC-47 (College of the Pacific).

P.S. Some of the other NOTEs in this conference that discuss
original Dave Brubeck Quartet recordings (mostly "Time Out") are
     156.4, 245.9, 245.16, 466.9, 546.0, and 597.4
