596.0. "Steve Miller CD's" by COMET2::LEVETT (don't you know anything NEW?) Fri Jan 09 1987 00:37

Never having been a big fan of Steve Miller (though the more
I hear the more I like), I'm trying to find the CD of the album
SAILOR. This is my wifes favorite album of his and she mentioned
she'd like a new copy since the lp is worn out (I'll opt for any
chance to buy a new cd). I haven't had any luck finding it and
was wondering if it's available and how's the quality?

    thanks,

I got this album through the RCA record club several years ago.
I don't know if they still list it in their catalogue, as I dropped
my membership a few years ago. Might check with someone who still
    belongs.

Anyone hear anything off the new album? I like Ya-ya. Is there
rest like this? I forget the name, can someone help with that too?

I would say, after hearing Miller on the radio being interviewed
and playing some cuts, that "Ya-Ya" is perhaps the most "commercial"
cut. The rest of the selections I heard were more of a "jazz vocal"
approach to some songs that could best be described as "standards".
The guitar playing was described by Miller as being a blues feel
over a jazz type arrangement. These are, without exception, very
old songs done in a very mellow, one could almost say "lounge"
type of style. Not the "space cowboy" by any means and miles from
his last album, which by his definition was a "blues tribute".
These songs were done, according to him, due to his love for these
songs and his desire to try his hand at these types of arrangements.
The record company was quite displeased and Miller, quite rightfully,
could care less. If you like this kind of stuff and have been a
fan of Miller's guitar playing and vocals then you might really
enjoy the sound. If, however, your favorite Steve Miller song has
always been "Fly Like An Eagle" and you've been hoping he would
return to this type of material then I would maybe try to get a
listen to this before you spend the 7-15 bucks.

Ok, thanks. Happen to know the name of the album? It sounds
different enough that it would be investigating.

    Thanks,
