My new Aiwa DX-770 D player is bloody amazing and I'm extremely grateful to my wife, Wendy, for getting it for me for my birthday. However, a question about error correction:under the specifications it says "Error Correction: Cross Interleave, Read Solomon Code", can anyone translate this into capability for me? Andy

I think that's supposed to be Reed-Solomon code. It's the standard error correcting protocol for CDs - every CD player uses it. It means nothing special. Steve

I'm pretty sure it provides single-bit correction, double-bit detection. --PSW

It is 'Cross Interleaved..", it is a method of interleaving the bits on the disc to spread them out. Once they are spread out the probability of hitting enough bits to cause an error is reduced. On top of that the CIRC ECC code can correct strings of bits, many of them, 18 or more if remember correctly? John Ex-CDROM CSSE Eng. |
