I second the vote for "CLOSE TO THE EDGE". Good job. Of course
I have a certain sentiental 'fix' for the album. It was the only
cassette that my two friends and I all liked on our trip through
Europe on the trains. We must have played it a couple of hundred
times. Great music for a train ride through the Alps....

| Fragile on cd is a good choice, yet I have also noticed distortion
on some areas of the music. However, when I compare the cd to the
album, I notice the same distortion. The source must be in the
original tapes, not in the cd conversion process. I love Yes and
most of their albums, but I have yet to see "Close To The Edge"
on cd. Hoorah for all who buy it. I only have "The Yes Album"
and "Fragile." Now if "Tales..." were released, that would be very
interesting.

| I bought Fragile last week, but swapped it back. The Vinyl album
has so much better sound I wonder where they kept the YES masters!
With YESSONGS so awful and FRAGILE dulkl and lifeless, I've written
to the label saying I intend to buy no more YES CD's.

| This is a shame, because I was originally intending on buying "Close to the
Edge", since my vinyl is in horrible shape and that's the only Yes album I
like anyway (I still like "Roundabout" and "Yours Is No Disgrace", though).
I have had bad luck, in general, with the Warner family discs. With the
exceptions of the ones that have been remixed (which is not stated). The
CSN(Y) discs were clearly remixed. Peter Gabriel was not. Some of the
imports have been OK. After buying Yazoo and being disappointed, another
noter mentions to me that the U.K. versions had extra songs anyway. I'm
borrowing them soon to compare quality as well, to figure out what the story
is. I figure Warner's such a big company, they have the hardest time of
keeping quality intact and maintaining consistency to the way they go about
their CD releases.
"Close to the Edge" could stand a remix, as could "Fragile" and the others. I
had the import vinyl of "Fragile" and thought it sounded dull and lifeless, so
maybe the problem IS in the master tape!

| Don't write off 'Close to the Edge'; I have the cd and I think that
it sounds very good indeed. If they don't release 'Tales' and 'Going
for the One' I'd be very upset.

| RE: .8
I'll try it when it goes on sale. This is one album that DEFINITELY needs CD
technology to be appreciated, due to all the dynamics and quiet passages. It
kind of spoils the atmosphere to hear grinding sounds during the bird
tweetings at the beginning and end, even though I'm not normally bothered by
vinyl surface noise.
