519.0. "GRP on CD" by OPUS::LUBART () Mon Nov 03 1986 16:45

    Wow! Thats all I can say after listening to GRP Live on CD.
    This band, put together by Dave Grusin and Lee Rittenauer (sp?)
    is tight. The overall quality (especially for live) is excellent
    and the music is fantastic, especially the first and last track.
    The last track is a variation of the St. Elsewhere theme which
    I believe was written by Dave Grusin. I've also listened to
    Grusin's N.Y.- LA Dream Band which was also on the GRP label
    and was good although not quite as energetic as GRP live.

    GRP label seems to have a good deal of CD's out. Has anyone
    heard any of the others. I know that Harlequin by Grusin/Ritt.
    was popular. What else can you recommend?

519.1"GRP Live" is also on LVCASEE::CLARKWard ClarkTue Nov 04 1986 05:496
    The "GRP Live" album is also available in LV format. I rented the
    Japanese import edition earlier this year and have been anxiously
    awaiting the USA release (Pioneer Artists Signature series). The USA
    release will have digital sound and is half the price of the import.

    I just bought that last nite, after listening to it extensively
    at Natural Sound while in shop mode. It's a great disk. All of
    the Gruisin stuff is digitally mastered, I believe, and is technically
    excellent. Musically, Dave G. can be a little commercial, but still
    great sonically.

    I just bought the Warning CD on GRP by Cobham. Quite energetic,
    but not as good as I was expecting it to be. The sound quality
    is not as clear as the GRP Live disc, but it DOES give your system
    a great workout. There's something about this disc that gave mea
    headache to listen to - wondering if it's the constant cymbals....

    Both of these discs are under 45 minutes, by the way. I'm having
    a lot of trouble justifying purchases like this, given there's another
    30 min of potential music missing for the same price.... Hopefully,
    this will change with the newer releases.

    The GRP Sampler #2 is also good, by the way - older, but still with
    excellent people. It's YELLOW - check it out!
519.3Grusin on GRPNETCOM::GRANTTue Nov 04 1986 11:343
    We own and very much enjoy Dave Grusin's "One of a Kind" and
    "Mountain Dance" CDs, especially the latter. I'm sorry I don't
    have the order codes, but they're both on GRP.

	I like Dave Grusin's "Night Lines" (GRP-D-9504), and
	"One of a kind" (GRP-D-9514). As I mentioned elsewhere
	in this file, I did not like Harlequin (due to the fact
	that it was about 50% latino vocals).

	Also some great tunes in the same line by GRP are by Lee
	Ritenour, "On the Line" (GRP-D-9525) and "Rio" (GRP-D-9524)
	both discs have Dave & Don Grusin on keyboard as well.

	And for similar style music, with emphasis on flute, Dave
	Valentin's "Kalahari" (GRP-D-9508), also with Dave Grusin
	on keyboard.

519.5Ones without vocals?THORBY::MARRAAll I have to be is what You made me.Wed Nov 05 1986 07:518

   Question: Do any GRP labels have vocals (besides Harlequin)?

   At least, can I get a list of the ones that DO NOT? I have 'Warning'
   (from Mark K.) and really like it and would like to get others, however
   I am not into that type of music with vocals.

    GRP Live has one song with vocals, called Reverend Lee. Its sung
    by Diane Schur (sp?) and she has a pretty good voice. Rest is all
    instr. as is NY-LA Dream Band.

    Does GRP stand for Grusin-Rittenauer Project? I thought maybe the
    R stood for Rosen who coproduces the album with Grusin.

519.8Night Lines has vocalsPARSEC::PESENTIFri Nov 07 1986 07:046
	Yes. Dave Grusin's "Night Lines" has vocals, but not
	latino style. The female vocalist is very popular, but
	I can't remember her name.

    Sheffield labs has "Discovered Again" by Dave Grusin. This and
    "One of a Kind" are probably my two favorites.
