| Funny -- FINLANDIA HAS NO WORDS!
If you find it, I'd be curious to see what hack has grafted
words onto it, and what those words are.

| "Finlandia" is used as the musical basis for many hymns. The
1968 Methodist Hymnal listed the musical credits for all the
songs and "Finlandia" was right up there with "Traditional".
For older re-released recordings of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
I'd look though the CBS catalog. I think that's who they
recorded with.

Normally Finlandia does not have any words, the
record I have uses the choir right at the end.
Even though you seem a little sceptical I have
yet to have anyone listen to it who does not think
it adds a beautiul note to the piece. Most people
then want to go out and buy it!!
I have the added disadvantage that I am in England
and the choice is somewhat more limited than in the
States. My neighbour visits Las Vegas regularly so
I figured he might be able to obtain a copy that way.
No joy yet..

A 1980 catalog lists "Finlandia" with Ormandy and the Philadelphia
Orchestra with the Mormon T. As with most Finlandias, there are
other selections with which I am unfamiliar, so I don't know if
the Choir is actually heard on Finlandia or one of the other
selections. I don't know if any of these are on CD, but these LP
listings may be helpful for a start:
Finlandia, Valse Triste, Alfven and Grieg: Peer Gynt Columbia MS-6196
Finlandia, Valse Triste, En Saga, Swan of Tuonela Columbia MS-6732
both with the Ormandy/Mormon combination in English.
I also found a Finnish version by the Helsinki University Chorus
and the Cincinatti Symphony coupled with the Sibelius Origin of
Fire cantata and Pohjola's Daughter on Varese/Sarabande 81041.

You might want to look at the recording of Finlandia on BIS
CD-314. It includes a male chorus. A translation of the
first few verses follows:
O Finland, look, your dawn approaches,
And the night is dispersed, dark and long.
Hear how the voive of the lark mixes with sighing space,
Soon the skies will be filled with
It was recorded by The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted
by Neeme Jarvi, with the Laulun Ystavat Male Choir.
