511.1 | Yamaha = not bad | ADVLSI::HARVEY | | Tue Oct 28 1986 13:06 | 17 |

I just replaced a defective Kenwood 1100-B11 with the Yamaha
CD-700. I am pleased to say the Yamaha is better than the Kenwood.
While the Kenwood was out for repairs Tweeter let me use a Yamaha
CD-500 and it was a good solid unit. Not much for "whistles
and bells" but it did sound good.
Check on the prices for new units and see if the savings is
good enough to warrent used vs. new.
good luck

I purchased a CD-3 about a year ago for about $400. The unit
has played between one and ten discs per day for just about every
day since then, without any problems. Programmability is limited
to nine selections, not as good as many. Functions and remote control
work smoothly. The remote still has its original batteries. The
unit comes with two copper shipping screws to secure the chasis
suspension, you may want to make sure the owner still has them.
Sound quality, to me, is very good.

I bought the sucker. Very, very happy with the sound. Had a chance
to compare it to the Pioneer PDM-6, which has other nice features
(the changer), and decided that sound quality had to over-rule the
other features.
Thanks.

| Hi-Fi Choice (& English sister mag HI-Fi Sound) consider both the
CD-3 and CD-2X to be "Best Buy" products, their highest recommendation.
These folks actually listen to them, and dont mind calling it like
it is.

Also a little late, but I too think you made a good decision. I
have owned a CD-3 for about 1 1/2 years, and it gets a lot of use.
It sounds excellent, and the only complaint I have with it, (which
is a generic complaint to this generation of CD players) is that
it really objects to dust. Otherwise either its error correction
is excellent, or all my disks are 100% perfect. On the other hand
when the player starts to act funny, the correction is very painless:
I just remove the disk, and wipe any dust off of it, then everything
is again fine.

511.6 | missing manual - info needed | NATASH::WEIGL | Turboferrets - racing for answers | Tue Jan 13 1987 23:22 | 19 |

Well, it's been a couple of months now since the purchase, and up
till very recently it was working flawlessly. I'm wondering if
other CD3 owners (Yamaha in general?) can comment on a couple of
things. I bought it used, so I don't have the manual for it.
1) If you power up the unit with a disc inside the closed drawer,
does it always go straight into PLAY mode?
2) If the unit is cold (say 50-55 F.), and it starts up just as
in 1), does it start to skip?
The skipping ONLY happens when it's put into PLAY by turning on
the power switch. If I STOP, then PLAY (ie. restart, even w/o
reseating the disc), all is fine.
Anyone out there who can verify 1) and suggest cause on 2)?
Thanks!

511.7 | look at front panel switches | MRADM::D_LANDRY | | Wed Jan 14 1987 12:51 | 3 |
| My CD-2 has a 3 position switch which one of the positions causes
the auto. play mode you describe. Maybe your machine has a similar
switch. The position I leave it at is called NORMAL.
