504.0. "is there a CD catalog in the world?" by SKYLRK::POLLAK (Warp eight Mr. Sulu...) Tue Oct 21 1986 16:59

Can anyone tell me if there is a publication that lists all currently
released CD's? Hopefully the same publication does periodic updating
to keep the list current. I've seen a catalog in the record stores,
but I'd like to get something that I could take home and read.

There is a catalog published by Green. It is updated Quartetly.
    Runs about $2.95 an issue.

The last time I looked at the Greens CD Cat, it did not have may
European imports. This was about 6 months ago and might have changed
    by now.

The Green CD Catalog is published by Digital Audio magazine.
Schwann, long in the record catalog business, also publishes a
directory. Both should be available for sale in better record stores.

The Schwann CD Catalog is published monthly, so it tends to be more
up to date than Green's. Besides, I don't like to give that jerk
Wayne Green any more money than I have to.

As for European releases, you can subscribe to the Gramophone CD
catalog, which is published quarterly by Gramophone magazine. I
think it costs about $35 for the year. I'll try to remember to
    post the address in here.

Good luck finding those European titles, though!
504.5thanks for the pointersSKYLRK::POLLAKWarp eight Mr. Sulu...Thu Oct 23 1986 20:318
I just have to chuckle about the comments about European releases.
Since alot of cd's come out of the polgram plant in Germany would
they not be European titles? (don't answer that PLEASE!)
Thanks for the pointers to the catalogs. Will try to find a "better
record store" that carries the catalogs. The bay area stores tend
to sell records and rent movies mostly. The only other thing you'll
libel to get is a strangely clad checkout clerk and a week old issue
    of Rolling Stone's.
