498.0. "A Jewel of a GENESIS" by ASIA::MCLEMAN (A Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man) Fri Oct 17 1986 13:16

I found Genesis' "Seconds Out" the other day. I just thought I'd
    review it just a little.

Surprising, it was damn good , sound wise. I really liked this album,
way back in '77 (long ago, huh?), but now on CD, I think I really
got the Jewel. Considering GENESIS has gone down the diddy land
road ever since Phil Collins has made Sex symbol status. But anyway,
sound quality is excellent!! And it's got all the good ol' stuff
(theater progressive rock) that most heavy Genesis fans grew up
with. Of course it's got the ol' Bumpkin Phil doing the vocals
since Mr. Gabriel departed a couple years before the album was made,
But Phil does make a good go at it on the "Lamb Lies Down". And
to top it off, it has on the second disc, both Cinema Show and
Supper's Ready (with Bill Bruford Playing drums on Cinema Show,
a nice addition live.) The cover shows Phil with a BEARD!!

It's a two disc set in Jewel box on Charisma Records and I got
it for $39.00. I recomend it to any die hard Genesis Fan.

                                                Jeff

I have to agree with your opinion on this disk.

I have gone through a couple of sets of this on
plastic and the quality just isn't as good.

I picked mine up a few months ago at Strawberries
    in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it and snapped it
    up right then and there.

Are any Genesis albums before "Selling England by the Pound" available
on CD as imports? Anybody seen them anywhere? I'm thinking
particularly of "Foxtrot", "Nursery Cryme" and "Live".

Below are the Genesis CDs that I have which I think were imports.
I got most of them at the Harvard COOP one to two years ago. I
think Foxtrot was available at the time, but I didn't get it.
"Selling England by the Pound" I got here in Colorado Springs,
but I've seen the Atlantic or Atco version since then.

I have the ``Foxtrot'' CD. Lots of hiss, but I suppose that's to be
expected. I believe the label is Charisma Records.

498.11A Curious Feeling - Tony BanksCOMICS::HUDSONthat's what I thinkMon Jan 04 1988 13:507
This is one of the albums that I have been looking for since I bought
a cd player over 3 years ago, and was given to me at new year as
a present (how the person who bought it found it when I've been
looking in the 'B' section every week I don't know). It is wonderful.
    What else can I say?

Tony Bank's "It's a curious feeling" is out!? I've been hoping
that would come out for about 2-3 years now! Is it an import?
I can't wait any longer, now that I know it's out!

My copy was bought in Luton, England. The number is CASCD 1148.
It appears to have been made in England, pressed by Nimbus I think,
and it is on the Charisma/Virgin label, published by Tony Banks
Ltd/Hit and Run Music Publishing Ltd.

I have since looked again for the disc and can't find it anywhere,
so maybe it hasn't made it to all the shops yet. Maybe you could
try ordering it. Hopefully if enough people order it Tony will
get the message and do some more albums like this one.

498.14It may take weeks to cross the pond!FROST::EDSONDWed Jan 06 1988 06:509
Boy, I hope it makes it to this side of the pond real soon! I've
called around asking for it here with no luck in finding it.
I'll try ordering it, but that normally doesn't get it here any
    sooner.

I'd like to see/hear Tony put out some more solo stuff. A Curious
Feeling is a welcomed change to music style.

Long live "A Curious Feeling"! My vinyl copy is scratchy and muddy,
and I would *love* to get a copy on CD. Tony's second album, "The
Fugitive" just did not live up to ACF; neither has his soundtrack
albums. Now that Genesis is all-pop, I wonder if that would make
Tony more or less likely to put out an album similar to ACF?
