497.0. "Disc Review: Old & in the Way" by PARSEC::PESENTI () Fri Oct 17 1986 07:36

Old and in the Way Rycodisc - RCD 10009 - AAD

	Artists:
		Jerry Garcia	Banjo/Vocals
		David Grisman	Mandolin/Vocals
		Peter Rowan	Guitar/Vocals
		Vassar Clements	Fiddle
		John Kahn	Acoustic Bass

Excellent Blue Grass! Considering that this was recorded live in
1973, the sound quality on the disc is superb. For those of you
who are into acoustic music, this is a must. I found the disc at
Boston Compact Disc in Cambridge for $15.99 and jumped at the chance
to buy it. My album version of this has had so many plays you can
	hear both sides at once.

Note 169 in the Grateful Dead notes file (ALTHEA::GRATEFUL) discusses
the "Old and in the Way" CD (and a few others).

Great music, great sound.

I've seen this CD in lots of places recently.

ahhh-yup, you can thank Owlsley Stanley III, a.k.a. Bear, ace
soundman/Merry Prankster/organic chemist, for that. And his
Nagra 4 track with custom EQ.
