The discussion about disc dampers (491.*) makes we wonder whether
there are any CD players that provide a visible indication of digital
error correction.
I think that it would be handy for diagnosing both disc and player
behavior/problems to have some sort of front panel display that
indicates when error correction is taking place and how severe the
errors are.
Such a player could easily demonstrate whether the disc dampers
are a hype or a remedy.

A long, long time ago, in a notesConference far away....
I remember reading about our own CD operation having such an
output but be damned if I can recall where...
Hmmm.

The Meridian Pro and Cambridge machines have it. Its an easy logic
signal to find in the 14-bit Philips machines (both soft and hard
errors).

Buy the MacIntosh CD player, it has an LED on the front that indicates
an error correction is taking place.
