478.0. "Magnavox CD player for sale - modified" by NSSG::KAEPPLEIN () Tue Sep 30 1986 17:12

I'm getting out of the CD business and am selling off my CD player
and CD collection (giving some friends first dibs then will post
in CDSWAP. I don't use it much and am interested in other toys.

Musical Concepts modified Magnavox FD2041-BK01 for sale:
This is a highly modified player and sounds better than anything
twice the price. Here's what you get for $450:
      $150 Magnavox 2041 + Musical Concepts level II mod ($280) +
Musical Concepts Low Impedence Power Supply ($100) +
1 amp torroidal transformer for the audio section ($40) +
lead foil and Sorbothane anti-resonant treatment on transport+
Many additional polypropelene bypass capacitors not included in
the level II mod. + service manual ($7.50) + interconnect ($60)
                 "a $637.50 value"
This is the machine that Musical Concepts displayed at the winter
CES show in Las Vegas, which is why it is so super-modified. Since
that time, I have installed several updates and the torroidal transformer.

The price is negotiable. You might be able to talk me down a little,
especially if you buy some CDs too.

This machine works just great, except for the headphone output whose
circuitry was exercised to make room for more mods.

Mark, any particular reason you are 'getting out'?

I find that I don't listen much to the CDs and have lost some intrest.
Records sound just as good (and cost less).
I'd like the $ for other toys (cars, skis, swl).

Short-wave listening and eventual Ham radio. Sigh, can't make it
    to Deerfield (NH) this weekend.

I can understand your feeling... I got hooked on satellite TV after
reading an article by Bob Cooper in TV Guide back in 1978 - and that
was just about it for high end audio. (for example, I traded my Hartly
subwoofer for a microwave sweep generator).

I'll still go to concerts and buy records on occasion, but there are
only so many hours in the day to divide among hobbies.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought SWL meant swill, aka
booze. After all, you never know what hobbies some have.
