477.0. "Nearest Sony service center?" by DSSDEV::EPPES (O Freuden-Tag! O Halloo-Schlag!) Mon Sep 29 1986 13:49

My D-7 is sick! I played a disc last Saturday night, and when it was
done, I plopped in another disc, hit the PLAY button, and nothing
happened! It made a sort of humming/whirring noise, but the disc did
not spin. I got out my SO's D-5 for comparison, and found that the
little round thingy (to use the technical term) on the bottom, which I
assume spins the disc, barely moves on mine but moves freely on the
D-5. Somehow, it seems to have seized up or something. Needless to
say, I am highly distressed. I suppose I have to take it to a Sony
service center? Does anyone know of one closer than Westwood (which is
the only one listed in the Boston area phone book)? I live in
Burlington, MA, and work in Nashua, NH. (Westwood is just far enough
from home to be kind of a pain to get to...)

Any other comments or suggestions would also be appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to take it to any Sony "Authorized Service Center",
not just Sony itself, though it's likely for a D-7 that they'll
just ship it to Sony. I've been pleased with the service at
Cuomo's in Salem, NH, but that may not be terribly convenient for
    you either.

Well, I bought it at Cuomo's, so maybe it would be a good idea to take
it there. I didn't realize they were an "Authorized Service Center."
    Thanks.

I believe you must take it to an authorized service center in order
to get it serviced for free under a warranty from Sony. The best
way to get the one closest to you is to call 1-800-555-1212 and
ask for Sony's toll-free number. Then call up this # and tell then
you want the closest service center in your area. They'll ask you
for your zip code and then POOF! seconds later they'll be rattling
off several locations where you can get the service you're looking
    for.

Cuomo's is a Sony authorized service center. I got my Sony receiver
    fixed there free under warranty.
