Does anyone have any comments on the TELARC recordings
of "The Firebird Suite" or "Le Sacre du Printemps"?

I haven't listened to mine recently, but the long term impression
I have from them is very good. "The Firebird" is probably the
better of the two, but that may be because I slight preferance
for the music. For some reason whenever I listen to "Le Sacre
du Printempts", I have the feeling that it ended to soon. It
may be that the other version I have (from "Fantasia") has a
    slightly different ending.

Excerpts from both are one of Telarc's samplers (CD-80102).

I listen to them this weekend and give a some more information
    next week.

446.3 Any others?EAGLEA::DANTOWITZDavid .. DTN: 226-6957Fri Aug 29 1986 14:018
Are there any recordings for these that you can
recommend over these recordings? I am trading
with someone who doesn't have a taste for Stravinsky.

Hmm... My recollection of Fantasia is that the Sacre was severly
cut (else the movie would be a *lot* longer).

    re: .3

Thoses are the CD recordings of the "Firebird" and "Sacre"
that I have. I think there is a recording on London by
Charles Duroit (sp?) that is probably very good. I some
of his other recordings (Respighi, etc) that are very good.

    re: .2

I listened to both this weekend that this time I found that
I prefered the "Sacre" over the "Firebird". The quality of
performance and recording is very good on both. I guess the
difference is which style of music you happen to be in the
    mood for at the moment.

Most of the music in the "Fantasia" soundtrack was considerably
"edited" from the original scores. Many "serious" music lovers
were outraged by this. One story has it that Stravinsky, on arriving
for the premier of "Fantasia" was offered a copy of the score.
He declined, saying that he's brought his own. He was then told
"Well, you won't be able to follow it from that."

I don't know if it's true or not, but it's a good story anyway.

...but it happened at a private screening the Disney folks set up
for Igor before the film was released.
