427.0. "Hogwood Vivaldi Concertos has screwed up tracks?!" by QUOIN::BELKIN (Josh Belkin) Fri Aug 15 1986 10:22

I got "Vivaldi - Concertos" by C. Hogwood and Co. last week
(L'Ousieau Lyre) (sp???). I like the music and the performances very, very
much - these Concertos are somewhat similar to Hogwood's Four Seasons.
The "Alla Rustica" is wonderful! Must have been quite a sensation in its time.

The disk box lists the CD as having 19 tracks - the last 3 are the
Fast-Slow-Fast movements (of course!) of the Concerto for Two Violins and
Two Cellos, which is 9'47" long. Well when I load the CD my Sony CDP-302
says "17 tracks". Then, when I play track 17 it is 9'47" long and is
the entire concerto!! Seems like someone screwed up at the plant.

Does anyone else have this CD and noticed this? I'll be trying it on a
friends D5 this weekend.

I do highly recommend this CD for those Hogwood Four Seasons lovers who
need a fix of more Vivaldi from Hogwood. I will be picking up Hogwoods
Vivaldi Op. 10 - Flute Concertoes this weekend.

...maybe track 17 is broken up into three index sections. You wouldn't notice
this in playback. You can check this by looking at the display on your 302.
If you're in track 17 the index section will way 1, 2, or 3 it there's real
index data on the disk.

I'll check but I don't think so. I just for Handel's "Concerti a du Cori"
and it has indexing. The notation used on the Cd is different to indicate this.
It had 3 track, with around 6 indexes/track, thus:
1.1 1.2 1.3 etc. 2.1 etc.

Whereas the Vivaldi does not indicate tracks 17, 18, 19 this way. Just
17
18
19

So I still think "they" screwed up!!!

same problem! when track 18 starts, the counter and track indicator
    still "think" they're on 17...!
