420.0. "Mail ordering from outside the U.S." by PDVAX::P_DAVIS (really SARAH::P_DAVIS) Mon Aug 04 1986 14:25

    I have two items to raise in this note. The first is: Has anyone
    ordered from Harold Moore's (cf. Note 27...) in London recently? I sent
    them a list of titles two months ago, and I'm not impressed with their
    responsiveness. I got one letter a month later, saying that some of my
    titles were not available, and the others were being ordered. Nothing
    since then.

    My other question is: What are some other non-U.S. sources for
    mail-ordering CDs? I know there are a lot of European and Japanese
    releases which are not available here. How can I get my hands on
    these suckers?

    Thanks.

    There are ads in the back of Digital Audio issues that claim to
    offer imported CDs not generally available.

420.2Harold Moore, LondonSHIRE::WENGERMax Wenger @GEOThu Aug 14 1986 09:3014
On saturday I was at Harold Moore's ... Quaint little shop, but what a mess ...
I'm not exactly surprised about .0. There shop prices are however quite good.
BPD. 9.90 compared to 11.50 for the same record at VIRGIN.

GRAMMOPHONE has a whole list of UK mail order places. I'll try to dig one up
this week.

With all the DECies flying back and forth over the pond, wouldn't it be
possible to post "wanted's" in this notes file ? US residents would however
have to accept slighly higher prices (When will the US$ bottom out ????).

At the current $ exchange rate typical European price would be bewteen 18-20
US dollars. It all depend on how badly you want the record ...

420.4Good or bad experiences w/ overseas mail order?PDVAX::P_DAVISreally SARAH::P_DAVISFri Aug 15 1986 13:498
    Thanks very much for compiling that list. Does anyone have any
    experience in dealing with any of these places? I chose Harold
    Moore's originally because it was recommended in an earlier note.
    I keep meaning to call them to find out what gives, but I haven't
    had a chance yet. I'll post the results here when I do.

    Thanks.

    I've used MDC (also from the previous recomendation) and they have
    been very good. Harold Moore's may be just as good but they don't
    seem to have their act together - I can very well believe that the
    place was chaotic - that's the impression I got on the phone. One
    word of advice - please check whether the CD you want is actually
    in stock - they don't tell you unless you ask.
