You'll have to educate me. Why would I want to pay this much for
a Sony player when throughout this and the audio notes file the
Magnavox CD player for under $200 is the recommended machine?

Depends on who is doing the recommending, though I agree the price
seems out of line, especially as the CDP-302, while an excellent
player, has a lot more competition, even from Sony itself.
