368.0. "I am *LOOKING FOR*...." by GNUVAX::KARLSON (Woman Explodes. Film at 11) Tue May 27 1986 20:03

Well, I originally posted this in CDSWAP, and --jerry moved it to
this notesfile for me. However, my original posting was a "I know
this exists, but I can't find it, has any one seen it, and where?",
which quickly de-genreated to "Boy I really wish that <x> would
    come out on CD".

    So, I'm going to re-open a note.

I KNOW IT EXISTS. Others have it. I can't find it. I want
to get "The Doors -- LA Woman" on CD. Have you seen this? If so,
where did you see it (preferable in the MA./NH area)?" Thanks.

Basically I felt this note should be a "Looking for (know it
exists), but can't find <X> CD" rather than "my dream CD".
    Thanks.

I got my LA Woman at Strawberries in Harvard Square (15.99). I make
the usual trip (Coop, Discount Records, Newberry Comics, Strawberries,
Boston Compact Disc) looking for titles; repair to the Wursthaus for
sandwich and beer; then sweep back thru and pick up whatever has the
best price that I want to buy.

BTW, Lechmere is supposed to be having a 20% off everything sale
    this week.

According to Digital Audio, this Doors CD was released without
consulting the people who engineered the LP, and there is some griping
that the sound quality is poor. Look in the May issue, I think...

I thought the sound quality was pretty good in general- however
it has to be kept in mind that this is a vintage recording. Riders
on the storm is excellent (rain "noise" masks the hiss!).

I got this some months back and, unfortunatly, I've got to agree
with reply .2 on the quality. It's way too harsh and doesn't reproduce
the athmosphere of the original. But then the experts tell me it's
    my ears!

It has been quite a while since I heard the record (I listen to
CDs only these days), but my LA Woman sounds about average for a
10+ year old pop CD. The Doors were never known for excellent
engineering after all. BTW I slao picked up Waiting For The Sun
last Friday and I must say that it compares favorably with LA Woman-
so if you didn't like LA Woman don't get Waiting For The Sun.
