350.0. "REVIEW: Beach Boys SURFIN SAFARI" by DONNER::LEVETT () Wed May 07 1986 19:22
I received a cd of the Beach Boys for my birthday the other
day...and what a suprise! SURFIN SAFARI, a German import by
Bellaphon was not at all what we expected (we being my friend,
who gave me the present, a HUGE B.B. fan). While the music is
not adapted well to cd because these are early 60s recordings the
material has proved to be a delight. We knew that the original
releases back then were sped up to make the boys sound younger but
how different they sounded at the original recorded speed.
On top of that, there were half a dozen early recordings that
we have never seen on U.S. discs. Some of them were, KARATE ala
TEQUILA, LUAU, BARBIE (done according to a book, with Brians wife)
and SURFIN SAFARI with different lyrics.
The quality of the recordings range from fair to good.
The import only cost $15.00 (Colorado money) and would be a must,
I would think, for true die hard Beach Boy fans.
Thanks for the gift Ken...
