349.0. "Indie CD's available !?!" by UTRTSC::VERKADE () Wed May 07 1986 12:38

	This is a WARNING for all lovers of British Indie Music:

Last week at my local CD-dealer I saw a CD by Psychic TV. Since I usualy
like these guys, I wanted to hear the thing, specialy because the cover
said it was a "direct digital live-recording" in a "limited numbered
edition of 5000" or somethings like that. But it was incredibly bad.
There was a lot of hiss in it and the sound-quality was like some illegal
live-recording, which you can buy on cassette. It's really not worth the
money.

Does anybody know what Indie music is available on CD by now. I've got
a couple by now:

Cabaret Voltaire - The Covenant, The Sword And The Arm Of The Lord,
Cabaret Voltaire - The Crackdown,
Cocteau Twins - The Pink Opaque (CD only) and
Smiths - Hatful Of Hollow.

I've seen some more by Smiths and Cocteau Twins, but I'd like to know
what's more in the shops or what's to come soon.

349.1Bad sound quality.....or is it me ???ELMO::MARCOUXWed May 07 1986 17:144
        I have the Pink Opaque CD and am certainly disapointed in the
    quality there. I'm not that familiar with the Cocteau Twins.I find
    there melodies intriguing,but do all there recordings have such
    a compressed sound.

    I'm not sure what you classify as "Indie", but I recently picked
    up a Bauhaus CD: 1979-1983 VOLUME ONE that has just a shade under
    60 minutes of music.

349.3Scrapping Foetus etc. !!UTRTSC::VERKADEMon May 12 1986 07:5917

    Last weekend I have bought a new CD by Scrapping Foetus Off The Wheel,
    called "Nail", which is sounding very good. The music is very weird,
    but I like it. It has got the song with the shortest title I know:
    "!" (Yes, only an exclamation mark). It is probably also one of
    the shortest songs: 3 seconds...

    RE: .1
    Cocteau Twins's CD does not sound strange to me. They usually sound
    that compressed. There are more CD's available by them yet. I've
    seen "Garlands" in the shops and I think they'll sound the same.

    RE: .2
    Can you get me any ordering info about the Bauhaus one. I quite
    like to get that one. Thanks

    I just picked Volume 2 of the Bauhaus yesterday plus a CD of its
    spin-off group, Love and Rockets. All are on the Beggars Banquet
    label. The stock numbers are:

    Bauhaus 1979-1983, VOLUME ONE BEGA 64 CD 1
    			1979-1983, VOLUME TWO		  BEGA 64 CD 2

    Love & Rockets	SEVENTH DREAM OF TEENAGE HEAVEN BEGA 66 CD

    I almost forgot to mention this, but the other Bauhaus spin-off
    group, Tones on Tail has just released a CD called NIGHT MUSIC.
    I'm not familiar enough with their LP's/EP's to be certain, but
    I'm pretty sure that this is a compilation of their previous
    material. How much other material they have, I don't know.

    And there has been another LOVE AND ROCKETS CD out for quite
    some time, entitled EXPRESS.
