342.0. "Volt/Freq Compatibility" by 15569::SIEGMANN () Wed Apr 30 1986 15:37

Does anyone have info regarding voltage/freq compatibility of cd's
    when going from 120/60 to 220/50? ie other than the compact
    units (D5,SL-xP7) which use dc input do the motors run off dc
    or ac?

    All the motors run off DC internally. The motors are very tightly
    controlled using servo-feedback circuits.

    You should check service manuals to see if the power transformer
    has multible primary taps. I think that Philips/Magnavoxes do,
    but Sony's don't.

    Practically everything sold in Europe has 115/230 V (or even something
    like 110/120/220/240). From what I've seen, most European manufacturers
    don't bother to make 115V-only models for the USA, whereas most Japanese
    do... (value engineering?).
