| Rather than recommend CD's on their sonic qualities, I would say
listen to WBUR, GBH, CRB, ..., and find out what you like.
Assuming you're in the Boston area.

| Wynton Marsalis has a great CD of baroque trumpet music. I forget the name
of the CD, but it's on CBS.

| One of my absolute favorite Baroque compact disks is the recording of the
3 Bach Violin Concertos by Sigiswald Kuijken (yes, that's the correct
spelling) and La Petite Bande on Pro Arte (CDD 124, I'm not sure about the
CDD, I am about the 124). It is done on original instruments, it is music
that is an essential part of the Baroque repertoire, it is beautifully
recorded with excellent sound and separation, and, most important, it is
superbly played. I can't think of anything that moves me more in the
Baroque area then the slow movement of the Concerto for Two Violins as
played on this disk. Highly recommended.

| WBUR used to have (still does noters?) a Saturday afternoon program devoted to
"Barococo" (the D.J. abbreviated Baroque/Rococo?). If still around, worth
listening to.

| Ah, yes. DeKoven and the Baroccoco Society. He died a while ago.
He didn't like slow music, so he regularly left out the middle movements
of concertos.

| In MUSIC I gave some general recommendations, but a CD outside of those
springs to mind now.
Teleman, 5 violin concertos, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields,
Iona Boyd, violin and conductor. Philips
I bought this for my wife (a violinist) having no idea what to expect
(besides good playing), and it quickly became one of our
favorites.

| re .2 I believe you may be thinking of, if I am right,
Edita Gruberova. It is a CBS Masterpice, witha sort of
bronish tinted cover with writing in whit on the left hand
upper corner. It is a sliver seal with a red, white, and blue
ribbon.

| Thank you for your responses to my initial request. I'm going to do some
shopping this coming week. I may go to a store called Electric Grammaphone
in Sudbury, MA which will let one "preview" a disc prior to purchase.
