On my CD of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" I hear what sounds exactly like a stylus jumping a groove every time I listen to cut 7 ("Shoo-Be-Do"). It occurs 3 min. & 11 sec into the cut. It occured to me that maybe it was recorded that way, so I started tapping my fingers in time to the snare drum. Sure enough, at 3:11, I am almost a half measure out of synch! (I was OK at 3:09.) If I take the snare drum as beat 4 of the measure, it changes to beat 2... My disc is clean, no visible damage, player is on sturdy shelve and occurs even with the speakers off while hearing headphones, eliminating any possi- bility of acoustic vibration. Anybody else heard this? Edd

Blaspheme! :^) No, I haven't. Just noticed it last night and thought I'd check with other noters. (Can't stand the thought of tying $30 up in Mad Donna to replace it.) Edd

Just checked it. Sounds fine on mine. There is an extra beat at 2, but the one at 4 is where it's supposed to be. -- Geoff

A belated reply...if there's still interest! I listened to the track at 3:11; all I hear is a guitar player resuming a very plunky, percussive riff that sounds like a snare, while the drummer is hitting the snare. They're out of synch a bit, so it sounds like a skip. What bothers me about this disk is track 1: the bass sounds like it was over-recorded -- boomy! Other opinions on this? By the way this is the only track I have complaints about; otherwise I think it's a fine recording: good recording of the percussion (and there's a lot of it -- bells, synthesized percussion, drums...) |
