232.0. "Grateful Dead" by DTP::DPARKER () Wed Dec 11 1985 01:23

Has anyone seen (heard) any early Grateful Dead on CD? What titles are
available?

There are at least three Dead CD's: TERRAPIN STATION, SHAKEDOWN STREET,
and one other whose title I forget. I have a the first issue of the new
Schwann CD catalog which lists them, but it's at home. If I can remember
to bring it in, I'll give you the exact list.

(I don't believe I'm even answering this; I don't even like the Dead. :-))

RE:.1

The third one, from Schwann (I don't like them either) is GO TO HEAVEN.

What I'm particularly looking for are Dead CDs of stuff prior to Terrapin
Station. - American Beauty, etc. I'll check out the Dead notesfile...

I don't like those 3 that have been mentioned either! :-)

What?!?!?! I thought EVERYONE liked the Dead! Sigh, another illusion
shattered.

Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs has an Original Master import of From the Mars
Hotel out. Last I looked, Rock 'n' Mania had them...

If your a fan of the DEAD, but don't want TERRAPIN on CD,
forget the rest! American Beauty *might* be worthwhile but I doubt
it (the 1/2 speed master wasn't that impressive) and nothing else
in the early years was recorded well enough to justify a CD pressing.
Unless the CD factories are disparate for something to print.

P.S. I LOVE the DEAD LIVE!!

If you believe that, then don't get the Buddy Holly CD. Gasp!! it
was even mostly MONO! But what a nice sound.... Nah, couldn't be - my ears
need de-waxing :-).

When someone spots American Beauty, please speak up. Maybe they can
pull the tricks with it that they pulled with Buddy Holly, and come up with
nice sound. My original (DJ copy!) LP sounds pretty damn good; maybe they
simply screwed up the half-speed job. Here's hoping..

Just picked up Live Dead at Rockit in Nashua. The sound, while not
stellar, is quite good. And the music sounds as rich now as did the
    1970 vinyl release.
