225.0. "Surveying Sony CDP-30 Owners" by CASINO::TOWNE () Wed Dec 04 1985 16:07

Greetings To All CD Fans,

My first entry to this particular notes file in that I've just
joined the ranks of the Compact Disk owner. I'm a pure rookie in
this area. I purchased my first CD player and CD's this past
weekend and am already impressed and thrilled beyond my imagina-
tion. My only real question is that of the unit's integrity. My
purchase was that of the Sony CDP-30, the basic unit with very
few bells and whistles. I saw maybe only a couple of mentions to
the Sony CDP-30 (and that was only to price) in this notes file
so I am wondering if there are any others out there with this
particular unit. And if so, how has it performed, any problems
with it, likes and dislikes, and any other matter worth mention-
ing? Any other tips or suggestions would be welcome from all,
likewise. Thanks in advance for any input.

	Patrick Towne

Patrick,

I know this isn't the kind of input you are looking for, but do you have any
idea of the difference between the CDP-30 and the CDP-70? I can't find a
single resource that lists all of the currently available CDP's accurately.

David,

Thank you for the response. As it was explained to me by the salesman
when I purchased the CD player, the only difference between the CDP-30 &
the CDP-70 is that the 70 has infrared remote where as the 30 does not. I
believe that to be the only difference between the two units. So whatever
the specs on the CDP-70 are should be the same for the CDP-30. I surely
hope that this may help you. Thanks again.

re: .2

Patrick,

I'm afraid the salesman may have mislead you a tad...the CDP-70 definitely does
NOT have the remote control (although you can get it with the optional purchase
of a separate external unit). I still don't know that the distinctions are,
but remote ctrl. is not one of them.

Story of my life..... Oh well, thanks anyway David. If anyone else
out there that has any experience with the CDP-30, or even if you know
of it, please let me know. My time is running out before my option of
returning it expires!!! Hope to hear from someone out there in CD land
soon. And once again, thanks in advance.

Happy listening...

The September 1985 issue of Digital Audio has listings of 115 current
CD player models. The differences I note between the CDP-30 and CDP-70
are these:
	Programmability: CDP-70, yes(16 selections); CDP-30, no
	Remote: CDP-70, optional ($50 list); CDP-30, no
Headphone jack: CDP-70, yes (variable); CDP-30, no

Everything else seems the same (other than price).
