205.0. "ONKYO DX-200" by SPKALI::JIM () Fri Nov 08 1985 07:42

Does anyone have any experience with the ONKYO DX-200 CD player? I'm
looking to purchase a player and have so far narrowed my choice to
either the YAMAHA deck or the ONKYO.

The main features I am concerned with in CD player architecture are:

	o Over Sampling

	o Digital Filtering

o The ability for the Player to start playing from a cold power
up. (I wish to use this feature as an alarm clock.)

o Headphone jack (this feature is not absolutely necessary but a
		          nice extra).

Does anyone have any suggestions about players that employ these
features? Any comments will be appreciated.

If thats all you are looking for, then look at the magnavox units. They
use 4x oversampling and digital filtering (I think). And they are very
   reasonably priced.

The Sony CDP 102 has 2x oversampling and digital filtering and
cold startup and IR remote control, but no headphone jack.

The Sony CDP-302 has a headphone jack and some programmability features in
addition to what's available on the CDP-102.

RE: .1

Yes the Magnavox (or Philips here in the UK) is a 14 bits , 4x over-
sampling WITH digital filtering CD. In actual fact the D/A converter is a
seperate chip (unlike some Japanese players). The Philips CD304 (Magnavox
3040?) has remote control, headphone amplifier (+socket) and variable output
control and is one of the few players (in the same price range) with total
tracks, current track and track elaps time displayed on ONE display !

The Sony CDs are pretty good as well, the CD 102 (no headphones, access time
of 2 seconds!) is in the same price range as the Philips cd 304, the Sony 302
is one level up. Not to mention the Sony 552, a 2000 UK pounds machine...
